Updated October 16, 2008:
Hiring for the fall has been closed but the program will resume in the spring.
If you are a teenager and interested in getting hired in the spring, send Beth an email to get on the list.

Who: The South Chicago Art Center is hiring high school students.

What: Teens will get paid minimum wage to participate in set design and teacher training workshops.

Where: Classes will take place at the South Chicago Art Center located at 3217 E. 91st Street.

When: Class will meet twice a week, on Tuesday and Wednesdays, from 5:30 - 7:30. This program takes place from October 13 - December 15, 2008.

Why: To give teenagers job opportunities while increasing their artistic and teaching skills. This project is supported with a grant from the Woods Fund.

Program Description:
Teaching artists Roman Villarreal and Micheal Chebowski will teach, up to 15 teens, how to create sets for the production of "Raven Black" put on by the People's Jazz Theater at the DuSable Museum in December. Teens will also learn how to teach a basic art class with teaching artist Maria Villarreal. At the end of the workshop, teens will pair up and teach a class at a community center, YMCA or public library in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Come to the Art Center to fill out an application and set up an interview. If you have artwork, please bring it. All interested teens must be in school or pursuing and GED.
